Kickstarter Kickoff Nov. 15th!

We’re excited to announce that the Kickstarter campaign for the next Dragon and Goat book will launch this Wednesday, Nov. 15th!  Stay-tuned for the actual web address for the page or you can go ahead and follow my profile on Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/1843414090

This is the 9th book in the Dragon and Goat series but our first Kickstarter so all the help you can give, by pledging or passing around the info, is much appreciated! For this Kickstarter we’re not only printing a book but also creating new enamel pins, one for Dragon and one for Goat!

Happy Mid-Autumn Festival

Since Dragon and Goat lived in China for a time (and where Adam met Alli), the Mid-Autumn Festival is an important holiday on the D&G calendar.

Also known as the Moon Festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival is a big festival in China celebrating the harvest of rice and wheat with paper lanterns and mooncakes.

You might also make offerings to the Moon Goddess of Immortality who stole an immortality elixir from her husband (either out of love or fear that he would be a tyrannical despot, depending on the legend you believe) and went to the moon to live as an immortal by herself.

It’s a good time to check out China town or your local Chinese grocery store or restaurant and be sure to get the mooncakes with the egg yolks! They’re egg-cellent…

And if you missed their adventures at the Beijing Olympics, check out Dragon and Goat’s Journey East

Back to School

Adam is back in the classroom at Chicago State University and the College of DuPage. This semester he is teaching Painting 1, 2 & 3, Illustrator/ Photoshop, Cartooning and Storyboarding/Sequential Art. This is his 9th year at Chicago State  where he is a full-time lecturer and his 8th at the College of DuPage as adjunct faculty.

So far in Illustrator/Photoshop students have used CSU’s electron microscope to capture ultra-zoomed images of personal objects and in Storyboard/Sequential Art students are gearing up to create a short comic about Social Justice- mot just changing typically male characters into female characters, but by engaging in the real stories of the fight for social equality.

In Painting II students are into a new project You Are What You Eat, exploring self-portraiture through still lifes that they are setting up themselves with actual food (looking at Wayne Thiebaud’s paintings and other delicious food depictions from art history).

Kickstarter Cometh!

We’re gearing up to not only finish the next Dragon and Goat book but launch the Kickstarter to fund a limited run of the first edition printing of the book, and we want you to be a part of it!

So what’s the book? Thyme Bandit is the 9th book in the all ages comic series Dragon and Goat. In this book Goat’s community garden is being burgled at night, and Dragon takes on the case to find who (or what!) is pilfering his best bud’s rutabegas. The humorous adventure comic is hand-drawn and inked with digital coloring. (each book self-contained so you don’t have to read them in order so don’t worry I this is ur first d&g book!

There’s still some work to be done (at least the pages above are finally finished!) but we’re aiming for a late November launch date. With the Kickstarter not only will you be able to get your name in the book for picking up a copy ahead of time, but there will be a few other tasty levels to pick up some D&G swag and original art.

Stay tuned to find out more about the next book: Dragon and Goat: Thyme Bandit!

Happ-E-clipse!

After Cartooning class at the College of DuPage, I zipped back to the city to make a pinhole eclipse viewer just in the nick of time! Equipment used: giant grill box, a piece of aluminum foil, duct tape, a piece of bristol board and a trusty Dragon and Goat pin from the early 2000s!

Chicago Underground Spread from the Next Dragon and Goat book: Thyme Bandits!

Here’s preview of a spread in the up-coming Dragon and Goat book Thyme Bandits.  It’s pages 14 & 15 in the book, so coloring and is almost half-way finished!

Be on the lookout for more info about the book and the Kickstarter that we’ll be launching towards the end of the year (this will then be a poster that you can get along with a copy of the book)!
