Build a Cardboard Adventure to explore the Great Indoors!

Your Two Page Guide to CARDBOARD QUEST: the Dragon and Goat Adventure Game!

Cardboard Quest, 1.0

The Adventure Week in the Quarantinuum Quoloring Book has been expanded to 2 weeks, since I went a little nuts on the whole thing and decided to write out by hand the handbook for the Live Action Role Playing Game: Cardboard Quest.

The Cardboard Quest sheets are free and downloadable from Week 4 & 5 in the Quarantinuum Quoloring Book. It’s been a blast playing with Cora, so if you have any suggestions on things to add or expand, let us know. It’s likely I’ll be developing this further for the next Dragon and Goat book or zine, so be on the look out for more from the Land of Carboria!

In the game you make your own characters (so you don’t have to be Dragon nor Goat), costumes, maps, and quests. The goal is to STRETCH your IMAGINATION and also obtain the Four Treasures of CARBORIA to either fend off the Archduke Trumpor’s Evil Armies or to Help Your Friendly Neighborhood Goblins Get Back Their Snail Herds.

No dice are required but it’s pretty cardboard heavy, so be ready to build armor, weapons, castles, and mangonels .

We’ve been play-testing at home, and Cora has transformed into the Sunset Knight: Sparrow Goldfinch (who she insists she is “all day, everyday”). We’ve been building helms, swords, and temples and watching videos of real-life women blacksmiths.

So far Sparrow Goldfinch and her trusted Wizard friend Kip Fizzfuzz (that’s me) have helped the Goblins of the Chlorphox Forest get Rainbow Starfruit, the Fire Bats of Flamera rid themselves of Ants with Cotton Candy Spell, and helped a Grumpy Swimming Dinosaur with its indigestion. That leaves only one treasure left- from the temple at the top of MT. THUNDROS!

Along the way we’re keeping an adventure journal and we’ll be illustrating it here and there the rest of the summer as we expand the adventures of Sparrow Goldfinch. If you do the same, share your adventures #dragonandgoat AND #quarantinuum or send ’em to us via the contact page or email, and we’ll put them in our Fan Gallery for Fame and Glory!

Happy 50th Earth Day

Celebrate the Earth’s 50th birthday…er…we mean Earth Day! Social distancing may be keeping us apart, but that doesn’t mean we should stop hugging trees. So go out to your yard or a forest and hug an arboreal buddy today.

Download this and other coloring and activity pages in Dragon and Goat’s Quarantinuum Quoloring Book!

There is still a lot of good we can do to make the earth a better place for all creatures. Take a look at Earthday.org for ways to tap into your community’s environmental networks or local non-profits like Chicago’s Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum or Garfield Park Conservatory. These places are closed but they’re posting lots of cool stuff to do outdoors in the Quarantine and virtual tours and activities.

Cardboard Quest

Finding yourself swimming in boxes?!

Finding yourself inundated in boxes with all of your remote shopping?

This week Goat notices that Dragon may be compensating for his lack of out door activities by buying every toy and collectible that reminds him of when he was a young whelp and simpler times. He’s gotta figure out a way to keep his buddy entertained and what to do with all that CARDBOARD!

A note from Adam: I don’t know about you, but I have been finding myself shopping online way more than I used to. Before the Quarantinuum I would, on occassion, frequent eBay shops clicking around for Duplo lots, Doraemon figures and super rare Sofubi Kaiju figures from Japan… but now I’m just having to buy nearly everything we need online from toilet paper to hair gel (which I really need to master since there are no longer hair clippers to be bought and my head is beginning to look like a shrubbery…)

So…our house is getting full of empty boxes. Just like Dragon and Goat will be doing this week, we try to re-purpose them as much as possible turning them into space costumes and castles. But my friend Josh started running mini-Dungeons and Dragon-like quests with his daughter (who’s my daughter’s best bud) in their house, using old boxes to make armor and swords. So their adventures were definitely inspiration for Goat’s Cardboard shenanigans with his bud.

Be sure to check out the full Quarantinuum Quoloring book for free coloring and activity pages. And don’t forget to send us your completed projects to be posted in the Dragon and Goat Fan Gallery page or post to social media #dragonandgoat and #quarantinuum! HERE’S THE LINK

But he’s got a pretty good one in his basement! This week Goat relaxes in some experiments…but not all of them go as planned!

During the Stay at Home orders, Goat has been semi-fuloughed from his research position at the FIZI Particle Physics lab but he’s still teaching his astronomy and organic chemistry classes at the local community college online.

To relax he likes to run experiments and play in data streams- as long as he can keep Dragon out of his Petri dishes!

If you want to get in on the science fun, hop on over to the Dragon and Goat Quarantinuum Quoloring Book for our growing activity and coloring comic that is free to download and print. Don’t forget to send us you completed coloring sheets or activities tagged with #dragonandgoat and #quarantinuum on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook!

As the Quarantinuum Quoloring and Activity Book continues, Dragon, bored out of his gourd, decides to go on a Troll Hunt!

Check out the new coloring and troll-centric activities for this week and make and stage your very own Troll Hunt! Just go to the Quarantinuum Quoloring Book

Week 1’s are conveniently packaged now as a PDF for easy binge printing!

Why trolls? Well, if you’ve read the Latest Dragon and Goat book THYME BANDIT , Dragon and Goat make a new friend in the troll Rotmoss, but it was also inspired by the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, IL. We were fortunate to get to visit tree sanctuary before they closed for the pandemic, and their troll exhibit inspired many days of troll making and hunting in our house. So these are kid-tested and kid-approved activities!

Welcome to the Quarantinuum!!!

I don’t know about you, but we’re about tired of being cooped up in the house 24/7 indefinitely… so it’s the perfect time for some Dragon and Goatin’.

We’re announcing the debut of a new and FREE coloring comic and activity book to celebrate our collective isolation, or, as we like to say our : QUARANTINUUM. Time is suspended. Space is condensed. We’re all sailing through the solar system and universe in our respective bubbles- at least we can COLOR!

So join us everyday for the foreseeable future to download a new 8.5″x 11″ coloring page in the story of Dragon and Goat’s story of survival in the face of the Corvid 19/ Novelle Corona Virus. Just download, print, and saturate the pages with color. We’ll have all new comics and/or activity page every day.

Then share your work! We’ll be scouring the interwebs for reposts of colored sheets hashtagged #dragonandgoat AND #quarantinuum (or just email them to us and we’ll slap your art on the fan gallery!) We may very well just select a few artists to get some free Dragon and Goat swag in the mail (as long as the mail’s still running, I guess?)

The Gallery Link is here: QUARANTINUUM QUOLORING BOOK. Have fun, and don’t forget to check out D&G’s other activity stuff and books on the site1
